Brief Description:
Optical diagnostics are a useful tool to investigate the physics of a combusting system. This presentation will discuss the development of a solid propellant hot-fire test stand at GTRI with specific focus on the diagnostics that have been utilized in sub-scale testing, and plans for implementation of additional capabilities for future testing and combustion system characterization.
Bio – Dr. Aimee Williams:
Dr. Aimee Williams is a Research Engineer II in the Rocket and Flight Instrumentation branch of the Georgia Tech Research Institute. Her current research interests are in the fields of solid propulsion combustion and plume analysis. Dr. Williams has a background in fundamental combustion research and applied optical diagnostics, specifically the combustion and dynamics of liquid fuel sprays. She received her Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering in 2019, as well as B.S. (2010) and M.S. (2013) degrees from Georgia Tech. Her doctoral thesis work described the interaction of autoignition initiation and fuel spray using spatially and temporally resolved high speed diagnostics such as chemiluminescence and planar laser induced fluorescence. Previous work studied the dynamics of bluff-body stabilized liquid Jet-A flames using high-speed diagnostics.
