october-2016-dinner-meeting-croppedOur October dinner meeting guest was AIAA distinguished lecturer Dr. Richard Hallion. Dr. Hallion is an aviation historian. He presented the topic “The High-Speed Revolution: How Aviation Progressed From the Subsonic to the Hypersonic Era.” It was fascinating to see a graph of flight speeds over time, to provide a sense of how quickly humans figured out high-speed flight after getting off the ground at all. Dr. Hallion also talked about the history of aerospace in China. This is a rarely-covered topic, and it was enlightening to learn how China has built its aerospace industry on what it learned from the West. Today China has engineers of its own who have put a rover on the moon. We can expect China to be a major player in aerospace for the foreseeable future.
